This Bill is not about making things fast. We already have that mechanism. It's about wealth being far more important than ecological longevity. It's about volume. More mussel and salmon farms. Not more valuable mussel and salmon farms. Just more. It needs to be renamed the Environment Destruction Bill.
It made a lot of impact for the hate speech legislation in 2021 that Justice was running. I think numbers matter a great deal. As well as quality, but numbers do matter, especially at this volume.,
Wow! This is so encouraging! Those of us who believe in Democracy will be heartened by the numbers of submissions, and encouraged to kick up even more fuss if the Fast Track bill is passed in spite of the evidence against it! Cheers People!!
Wow, I didn't know that out of the 2,350 individual submitters asking to be heard orally, only 550 appointments were made, and I was one. It was an important five minutes for me. Ill share the transcript of my oral submission on my Tuesday edition of Less Certain and Ill tag this article. As always, a great analysis.
Yes I was one as well and mine definitely wasn’t a cut and paste. I opposed the legislation and chose to concentrate on one point I don’t think my one was particularly wonderful. I actually spent a lot of the day of my submission watching many many oral submissions and I was so impressed by the quality from both individuals and environmental groups young and old. To me it was obvious that most of the ones I watched were individually crafted And there were a couple of people who so emotionally overwrought that they became tongue tied and to me that was fine. I was pleased to see the chair was extremely respectful (someone different from Dave Mcleod)
I only saw one that was for the legislation and they pleaded that their industry should be top of the list !

Thanks Bryce for putting this together.
A great write and a useful read!
The Select Committee includes the Parliamentary Undersecretary for Infrastructure and for RMA Reform. Isn't there a conflict of interest with that?
The number of submissions, while interesting to note, doesn’t necessarily mean legislation will be altered. Think Three Waters!
